HK
places to go: -mongkok. for the shops, cheap stuff, food. dun go to the mall - instead walk along the dirty, crowded streets, which make the real mongkok. -tsim sha tsui. can get a view of hk island. very picture-postcard-ish- u noe the ferries in the foreground, highrise buildings in the background? -kowloon! -tsuen wan -yuen long -sha tin -the Peak! (on HK island. ferry and tram ride!) -ocean park - it's funner than Disneyland. seriously. the tix are WAY cheaper. there're more rides and they allow u to bring ur own food and water in. not like disneyland which forces u to buy the food inside the park, which will of course be very ex. unless it's been ur lifelong DREAM to shake hands with a person dressed in a stuffy mickey mouse suit. -any of the mountains. gr8 air, nice view. esp the mt at Tai Po. gd exercise too! -and loads more to do: -eat! the food here is way better unless u cant live w/o chilli, cos there's hardly any chilli stuff here. -go mountain trekking. why waste all the mountains surrounding the place? -eat. NOT at fastfood restaurants like Macs or KFC. yuck. -shop -enjoy the cold weather! -enjoy the xmas lights, esp in Tsim Sha Tsui -eat. not just at the huge restaurants, but in those roadside shops tt look tiny n nondescript. tt's where u get the nice food at low prices. there's more than just dim sum to hk food! -wander ard looking at the shops -in crowded places, just stare straight ahead and ram ur way thru the crowd. dun bother to say 'excuse me' if not ppl will put u down as a softie and push u out of their way. -shop! but unless u plan to travel to cold countries in the near future, dun squeal too much over the clothes cos the shops are all selling winter clothes and they'll be of little use in S'pore other than to act as ornaments for ur wardrobe. sad but true. -take a ferry over to HK island. take the tram up to the Peak. enjoy the view -take the KCR train or MTR train and stop at every stop to walk ard. explore :p -try the minibuses. rmb to shout if u wanna stop if not the driver will just drive past ur destination -try NOT to take the taxis. their meters jump very fast.
how long has it been? feels like ages. i had loads of unread mail in my inbox. first time ever. HK is great! the food especially. been wondering ard HK with Lyn - Kowloon, Mongkok, East Tsim Sha Tsui. Sha Tin, Sheung Shui... the KCR train fares are outrageous. the taxi fares too, not tt i've taken a taxi yet. but i rmb the last time i did take the taxi - the meter kept changing every second. the fare went up to the hundreds. the weather here is not nice tho. very sunny, true, but hot. almost as bad as S'pore. fortunately according to weather reports it'll start getting cold this wednesday. hurray... i miss swimming. all the pools here have been emptied and cleaned out. wont be open till next yr spring. arrggh no wonder most HK-ers look so PALE and UNHEALTHY. they dont look as if they do much exercise - at least the teenagers dont. cant go mountain trekking cos the gvmnt fears transmission of bird flu frm the migratory birds tt tend to hang ard in the mountains. been going exercising with my dad's dog every morning. long walks and everything, but i still wanna go for a swim. i'm suffering frm withdrawal symptoms. seems like the class is planning (or has been?) some class outing. movie/lanning/watever. anyway... have fun! will be going to xiamen this wed-sat. the tour person said it'd be snowy there, but i dont see how tt's possible as it's like 20 degrees(celsius) there.
k now i wont feel so guilty abt missing 3 wks of dance. shall be taking dance classes intensively (prob 4 or more times a wk) in HK. hope to finish learning all the character stuff by then so ms tan wont have my head. it's the onli way i can 'pacify' her. 30 minutes, a blink of an eye 30 minutes to alter our lives Do we run? Shld I hide?
currently reading mansfield park, which i read in pri sch during those pathetic and highly infrequent so-called Lit lessons; although of course i read the abridged versions, our little minds being as yet unable to comprehend the more profound language beyond PETS wkshts. reading austen does sth to my writing, gradually affecting me to the pt where I begin to write long sentences, punctuated with more than the usual amount of commas, semi-colons and other forms of punctuation except the long-awaited full-stop. ok. enough. i. need. a. break. to. take. my. breath. back to normal. my version of it anyway. this is the 2nd time i'm blogging today. i've made progress - almost done packing. only the passports n stuff liddat left. i'm dreading spending 3 wks with lyn. she has an incredibly big mouth. she sounds the most intelligent when her mouth is shut. she nvr listens to anyone but the devil in her. someone pls give me the patience to refrain frm strangling her. at least let me last till we get off the plane.
i ought to start packing. i always leave it to the last minute n end up forgetting sth. much as i'm eager to go to beijing (if i'm even gonna) to enjoy the cold there, i dun like the idea of packing winter wear cos they take up so much space. lucky i've got a thick jacket in HK so i dun need to bring one all the way frm s'pore, in my tiny luggage. dad says it's also turning cooler in HK. but the last time i checked, it's 28 degrees there. not exactly cool, issit? cant wait to get out of hothothot s'pore. darn rmbed there's lit on wed rite? which means i'll have to be packed up by tmr. lyn has already packed all her clothes. one wk before. such enthusiasm and excitement. i used to be liddat. i never wanna be reminded of pw ever ever again. after the OP today the others were all for keeping our name-tags (enormous stickers abt half an A4 sheet in size and made up mostly of blank space. wat do they expect, a 100-letter name or sth?) as a 'souvenir'. i cldn't be bothered. scrunched the darn thing up and threw it away, together with my OP script. if someone wld provide me with a lighter, i'd be happy to make a bonfire with my pw guidelines n notes.
Insights & Reflections - Politically incorrect an extract This project has been an entirely meaningless waste of my precious time. If not for the project, I cld well be on my way to earning a Nobel Prize in nuclear physics or a Man Booker Prize for fiction. Instead, I have been forced to spend my time on evaluating newspaper articles about the elderly and their suicidal tendencies; attempting to survey tight-lipepd and stubborn old ladies... One thing that I have learned during the course of this project is tt one shld not even attempt to fathom the reason why the MOE decided to dump such an idiotic subject onto us unsuspecting students... I have emerged from the experience with only one skill, that of bullshitting. I'm certain this skill will prove extremely valuable and useful in the years to come...
after mon pw will be nth more than a bad dream. i shld start on my i&r. 500 words of crap n b.s. i, lucifer, lord of the flies, father of lies, apostate supreme, tempter of mankind. i forget. cannot will not hope not.
think now of what it should've been even heroes have the right to bleed even heroes have the right to dream it's not easy to be me maybe i cld go enrol myself with a dance sch in hk. then i wont get rusty. if not 4 wks will realli set me back. i'd have missed character work. n my char dance will be destroyed totally. heard there's this chingay performance thing tt i'd realli wanna join but practices r during the hols, most of which i'll be spending overseas. darn |
